Appreciate the response and the kind words drill instructor. They are not published anywhere except on CDC... but who knows what the future might hold. SeaRay, I'm sorry you are having trouble with the link... but you can access this article by going straight to the HOME PAGE and looking for Crappie Fishing 101 ~ Reason 8.

I was using the modified rig with 10 foot poles and had problems with the line running into the trolling motor? I was using 1/2 ounce weights(or 3/4 can't remember for sure). Should I use a heavier weight? What is the biggest weight you would recommend? I don't really want to get new poles, and I am not sure that would fix the problem as the line was not very straight.

I appreciate the reponse fishmanjoe. It sounds to me like you have several adjustments that you might try: (1) You can change the angle of your rodholder(s); (2) You can slow your trolling speed; (3) You could make slower or more gradual turns and (4) You can add more weight to keep your presentations more vertical. You always need to add more weight depending on trolling speed. One ounce is about the most I use when pushing anything off the front of the boat... but I have heard of people who use even more... up to two ounce egg sinkers. Good luck to you and I hope this will help you with your problem.

Thanks! Another thing that occured to me after I posted this was I could raise the motor higher to give more clearance as well. I probably do need to add more weight. I was using the slowest setting and trolling into the wind.

I really think you should turn this article into a book or at least an ebook. It is very helpful.

I appreciate the continuing support fishmanjoe and yankee doodler. I have been amazed by the amount of thanks and support I have received about the Crappie Fishing 101 Series of articles and the satisfaction that I have gotten from knowing that the articles have been read and enjoyed by so many across the country. Who knows what the future might hold... I'll leave it in God's hands... perhaps I will submit the articles for review to a publisher to get their opinion for publishing. Thanks again.

Thanks again for the tips had a great 3 days on the water last week while my son was on spring break! Caught around 60 fish with several of them being keepers. The strategies worked good. Normally it is hard to catch more than a few between taking care of my son and navigating. It is great that we could catch several and he had a blast!
