Default Not just for Crappie anymore

I did some experimenting with the scents today with some good numbers to show they work for salmon. I started with no scent on a jig, got 2 bites, no hook ups. Put Slab Sauce on and got 6 bites 2 hook ups. Put liquid minnow on and had 4 bites and 2 hook ups. Put a plain jig on, 1 bite 0 hook up. All In All I think the numbers speak for themselves. Scent made the fsh hold on a lot longer and had a lot more bites and hook ups than without. I tried to fish them the same amount of time but getting so much action with scent I may have used it a little longer than without.

I will be using it a lot more in the future because I hate not getting bites.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

Excellent report. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but I did a charter trip on Lake Michigan last year, trolling for salmon. And in two hours we had no hits, nothing. The captain of the boat was skeptical about putting the scent on, but since we went so long with nothing, he gave in. We put the scent on one spoon, and within a few minutes, we got a fish. The captain proceeded to let me put it on other spoons, and we started catching more fish. We didn't kill'em, but we were at least catching fish, whereas nothing at all those first two hours. Its been a while, so I could not tell you exactly, but I think we caught Kings and Coho's that day.

Further testing today with similar results. Slab sauce and Liquid minnow used on jigs, corkies and yarn and eggs with a lot more bites than without it. Had 6 people testing the scents and between them and myself we landed 14 fish and kept 9. Others caught fish but the ones using the scent did well comparatively. I also know that once you get the scent into yarn or on a jig and really work it in it doesn't go away for a long time.

The Chinook were not hitting plain roe but maybe 1:7. The rest were being taken on roe and sand shrimp or roe with scent. So when will you be getting a shrimp flavored scent done so I can quit buying sand shrimp.

Hopefully someone will join the site or at least place an order from all this and we can find a market for salmon and steelhead. I gave the site name to a dozen people both yesterday and today so hopefully. People here can be hard to convince sometimes, too much water on the brain or something like that.

The bait butter didn't do anything noticeable to improve anything. This could be because the water is really cold and it can't scent out or something else but it did not attract fish anywhere near as well, if at all, compared to the others. In warmer water, it should or at least could work better but so far no glory on salmon in cold water. Maybe i used it wrong but it would not stay on anything we used in the 2 days. Could just be me so Slab, if you have any suggestion on getting it to stick to yarn, corkies, chenille or any other materials in really cold water let me know. We could work it in but one cast and a hook set and it was gone with no scent that I could detect.

The essence of the bait scent is fish oil. To make shrimp flavored scent I would need to find Shrimp Oil! lol

I will try to incorporate shrimp scent in the next batch I make. Maybe I squeeze the liquid out of some shrimp, or maybe use dried shrimp. I'll come up with something. I will let you know f4a. Thank you very much for your ongoing help and field testing.

Sorry for the late reply, I was out of town at the KY Crappie Camp. KY Get Together at Big Bear | Articles 2010
