Today I caught (and released) at least 50-60 crappie fishing 0700-1300, up north end off Chestatee. I will post some pictures as I get to them, but this picture shows all my secrets in one pic:
The hand-tied gold JDM jig, Livescope trees lit up with crappie, nibbles at my feet (gotta figure out a better way to handle them because Lanier crappie seem to love them). I long-lined for no more than a half hour, with two fish right over some trees I found last time. I could not resist stopping and single-pole jigging, and that was it for trolling. I tried a few colors, and the crappie were biting the JDM glow/fools gold/chartreuse 1.5 g jig as soon as I put it in their face, just like last time. I also caught some on red/white/chart 1/32 hand-tie, and black/gray/chart, but mostly they wanted the gold.
Most of the fish were on the small side, around 9", but I did manage a few over 12". I released all fish today, and I left them biting. I found two new trees, marked waypoints, and tomorrow I'm going back to look for new ones. I'm slowly working the creek from ramp to river looking for fish on brush in SI, then targeting with jig and Livescope. Finding the crappie is straightforward, but I am not finding the big fish (yet). Trying to decide where to go tomorrow!
