I am not telling anybody how to fish because I am not that great of a crappie fisherman. But I did want to mention if you use 10 lb line or bigger from my experience you will catch a lot less fish. If you use a lite leader it doesn't matter. When I switched to 6 lb line a long time ago my catch went up by quite a bit. I use nothing but 4 lb line now for trolling and for shooting docks. It is easier to get your lures down to the fish with the lighter line in deep water and the line is a lot less noticeable in shallow water. I use Lite Wire Jig Heads made by Curtis and that helps a lot with getting the jig heads back when you are hung, and 4 lb line is stronger than you think. I have caught a 15 lb catfish on it. It took a while. LOL. This is just my experience.
My line must get hung in the top of stumps because I loose about 20% of my litewire jigs wit 10lb crappie maxx.

be sure to wet your line when pulling the not tight .
I use 6lb crappie max and think sometime I going to pull the stump up . Most of time the lightweight hook comes off before the line breaks.
