How to Measure a Freshwater Fish

From the Georgia Wildlife Resources Division Fishing Regulations
1.Place the fish on its side with the jaw closed.
2.Squeeze the tail fin lobes together.
3.Measure in a straight line from the tip of the snout to the extreme tip of the tail.
4.You must release all fish shorter than the minimum length indicated for that species.

They all looked legal to me. Great catch Hotwater :highfive

yep, you don't get to pull that bottom lip out like you were doing and measure. when you close the mouth and measure legally, the fish will be 1/4-1/2" shorter. that can be some healthy fines when you get visited by the wardens. they won't care that you claim you didn't know you had to close the mouth and pinch the tail.

they also won't care that the spider-man "thought" they all looked legal. just saying.....

Like I said it is a FYI on how to measure a fish. I know there is no length limit for crappie in GA, but there are for other fish. I also know that a lot of other states have length limits on crappie and I also know that many members on the board travel to other states to fish. It never hurts to know the correct way to do something. I was being done incorrectly in the video.

Great videos!!!!! I checked the others on You tube and I was impressed with the quality of the average size of the fish. Where I live the top lake in va is Kerr reservoir. On this lake their are no limits on size or length. Most Crappie fishermen let the small ones go to get bigger. Great report as always!!!!!:highfive
