GREAT DAY ON OCONEE
I traveled to Lake Oconee this morning and launched at the Sugar Creek ramp. The water temperature was 52 degrees, the skies were overcast and the air temperature was about 40 degrees. I long lined 10 rods out the sides and back while pushing two rods out of the front of the boat. The bite was slow most of the morning but things seemed to pick up anytime the sun peeked out for a few minutes. I had 8-10 fish by lunchtime. After lunch the sun began to burn away the clouds and the fish turned on. From 12:30 until 1:30 it was like spring fishing. At 2:00 I had 20 very good fish and headed for the ramp. When I got home I put the fish in a garbage bag and weighed them. I had 20.4 lbs. of crapppie. I made it home, put the boat away and cleaned the fish before dark.
The fish are still holding deep in the channel and the channel is full of bait fish. The water got up to 53 degrees once the sun came out. I trolled .8 mph. Curly tail jigs with blue on them worked well as did Bobby Garland jigs.
