OCONEE WEDNESDAY 9/16/16
Jim and I fished Lake Oconee yesterday. Jim recently returned from a fishing trip to Lake Monroe in Florida where he fished with his brother-in-law. They caught their limit both days so I figured we needed to fish while Jim was on a "hot streak". We began fishing at 7:30 and the water temperature was 58-59 degrees. We changed our technique and instead of pushing/pulling we both spider-rigged. Jim pushed jigs out of the front of the boat and I straight lined jigs tipped with minnows out of the back. The bite was very good early and we had nearly 20 fish by 10:00. The afternoon bite was much slower but we caught bigger fish. The water warmed up to 62-63 by the time we finished at 4:30. We kept 40 fish. We caught two 14 inch fish and several fish 13 inches or bigger. Jim's hot streak continued. He caught 21 fish on jigs. I caught 19 with the minnows. I'll take a second place like that any day. The water is 3-4 feet low. The fish we caught were in the channel.
