Thread: Another line question

What is a good hi-vis 4# line for longlining? I bought 2 spools of Crappiemax at Basspro last year, but that stuff will tie itself in knots after it's been on the reel for a while and has tremendous stretch and memory. Used to use Trilene XL red box exclusively and liked it, but I've come to like the hi-vis stuff because it's so easy to see. Haven't seen Trilene offered in hi-vis though. Heard PLine was good, but not sure which variant to get.

all I use is 6lb hi viz crappie max...and alot of it! I like medium to large size reels on my long lining stuff....bigger spool...less loops and throws better! some reel magic sprayed on em helps too! used the 4lb...throws great but just can't trust it guiding.

We also use high vis 6lb crappie max. It has been good for us. I like to use Mr. Crappie 6lb test too. Both lines seem to work well . We tend to find every stump in the lake to hang up on and both lines preforms as they should.

I tried the Mr. Crappie 4# test but found it breaks too easy on lake with stumps and trash piles.

If you like the Berkely trilene, you will like their Sensation Line. It comes in hi-vis orange and solar green. I have used this line and have had no problems. It's a bit pricey.

I use Vicious. Stren has a new hi vis gold specifically for crappie fishing. I can only find it on line at Cabela's. Both work fine for me. I'm switching to the Stren line. Take a look at Mr. Crappie camo line for leader use.

6# Hi-vis Crappie max is my go to line for all long-lining. I have a spool of 4# Hi-vis, but its to light for trolling stumps and standing timber. Use a meduim reel with larger spool and Magic-line spray and it will cut down on memory. I use Shimano IX 2000R's for my long lining setup.

I also use the IX 2000 Shimanos. Used 6# years ago, but swapped to 4# after noticing that the few reels I had 4# on caught more fish and never went back to 6#.
Have never used the reel magic, but will give it a try. Usually change line twice per year.

I havent noticed a difference in catch rates between 6# and 4# except in a few situations, mainly with clear water and spooky fish. I have noticed a difference in the amount of break offs I have while fishing in lakes with alot of stumps and woody cover(which is just about every lake I fish regularly) . 6# allows me more time fishing and less time retying jigs. YMMV, to each his on...etc. I change line on all my reels multiple times in a year, line is cheap, losing a big crappie due to old line sucks.
