    Default Electronics

Had a guy tell me the electronics(fish finder) should not be on the same Battery as the trolling motor. I have front finder, trolling motor & anchor on trolling motor batt. Should I run separate line off cranking batt(his idea) to finder. Any thoughts??
    Thanks

If you do not have any interference on your electronics when running the trolling motor, you are OK. If you see interference or resets on the unit then run a separate 12 V line. You should have an existing 12 V connection up front, coming from your main battery.

Get all that crap fixed and let us going fishing. If you need my ass in Lizella, just call. My fees are very reasonable.

The Lowrance units need at least 9 volts to function properly and preferably you would want 10-12. On a long day on the water your trolling motor battery will start running down and cause the unit to shut off or act crazy. There can also be some interference from this setup. If I run my unit from the trolling motor battery, every time I hit the trolling motor a group of fish will appear on the screen. It doesn't do this if I am on the cranking battery. If you run the unit off of the cranking battery, you should be able to avoid these problems as long as that battery maintains enough juice while cranking the big motor. If the battery doesn't have enough Cold Cranking Amps the voltage will drop when cranking the big motor and cause the sonar unit to shut off or reset. Make sure you have a marine starting battery with preferably 900 or 1000 CCA and you won't have this problem.

Trolling motor should have a self dedicated battery. A fishfinder will get interference from a trolling motor. I have seen them act up just from the wiring being run on top of each other.
