    Default Spring fishing trip recommendations

    Hey Guys,

I just joined and boy I can't believe how much good information there is on this site.

Anyways, I'm going on a week long crappie fishing trip with the family the first week of April. We used to go to Weiss, where we usually do really well but we are just looking for something new. I originally thought we would try Sardis or Grenada in Mississippi, but after doing some research I realized that there are no houses on them. We enjoy being able to stay at a house and relax by the lake and staying in a hotel takes away from that. Besides, we enjoy fishing off the dock at night so we axed those lakes out of question.

Now I'm considering Logan Martin Lake in Alabama or Clarks Hill Lake in Georgia. They both seem like great lakes. Does anyone have any input as to which lake is better? I realize that these lakes are no where near each other and most people probably haven't fished both of those lakes, but if you have input on either lake it would be appreciated. We particularly like to troll and fish docks as you would at Weiss. I'm really looking for a place where you can catch a lot of crappie with the chance of catching a 2+ pound fish. We once went to Lake Hartwell and Grandpa didn't catch many fish so I'm trying to keep him happy.

Let me know if you have any other lakes that are worth some research.

    Thanks!

Logan Martin is the lake of my choice it is more fishing friendly with lots of 2 lbers in it. just get in the flats and enjoy the day it will be exciting to say the least and by the way dock shooting is great on the lake

Awesome, sounds great. Dock shooting is such a blast...it really makes you work for them. Thanks for the input!

I feel the same about Clarks Hill, the timing has to be right and there are tons of 2lb slabs. Docks are plentiful and hold a lot of slabs also. There are several places to stay on the lake but I would stay in Soap creek, close to some great fishing and they have cabins on the water.

Every year my Dad comes down from Ohio for a spring trip, and we either fish Lake Talquin or lake Blackshear. Last couple we fished Blackshear and had a great time. Good fish.

If I were coming from Ohio, I would go to Lake Cumberland in Ky and rent a houseboat. It does not get any better. Been there many times and you can catch large Stripers and also some fine Bream fishing.
