    Default Mounting a depth finder

Where do most mount a fish finder such as a HB 899ci si or something along these lines. Would you mount it on the trolling motor to find fish while trolling or would you mount it at the console to find fish while scouting an area. Is there a way where it could be used in both places? At the console to find an area and then at the bow to troll a selected area?

In my opinion, you need one in both places. The one at the console for easing around and scouting areas and depths and one on the trolling motor for marking fish, locations and maintaing depths. I presently do not have one at the console, only a GPS. I am shopping right now the put one on the console. I am wanting to mount my HB 798 on my console and putting a 858 or 859 on the front...There is an option of using one unit and moving it when you need to, but I personally don't think I'd like doing that.....Just my opinion

You will need two. Put the 800 series on the console and at least a 500 series on the troll.

    It is your only option.

I have my HDS 8 with SS at the console, and both transducers mounted on the transom, and use the big motor to scout areas, etc., at idle speed. The 8 is on a ram mount so I can rotate it around to see it from the bow as needed. I have a HB 5" with gps on the bow with the transducer mounted on the Terrova/IP. I can see both screens when seated in the front.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Yes you can. You need to buy another transducer and mount for the front of the boat and just move the unit back and forth. I'm like these other guys though, you need to get 2 units. Buy the time you buy the hardware to do this, you can just about purchase another unit.

I have the Garmin GPS 740S on the center console and a small Lowrance elite DSI on the trolling motor. Tried it for a while with just the Garmin and wore the paint off the floor going between the front and console

I use the front Lowrance mainly for depth, but it shows excellent structure also. I bought the Lowrance DSI mainly due to the transducer. It is made perfectly for a trolling motor and the cable is small enough to run down the shaft of the Minn Kota.

Thanks to all for your input. After thinking about what was said I have to agree that it would be a pain moving it from the bow to the console. Since the one I have at the bow for trolling went out last week I think i'll replace it first with HB 597HD DI and go fom there. Once again a big THANKS and a MERRY CHRISTMAS to all.

Go with the biggest you can afford on the troller. you send all your time there thats where you need the biggest screen to see the fish..find the brush ect, with the console but use troller to find the fish on the brush

All you have to do is have on unit, two transducer's and a switch. Mount unit at console in a ram mount so you can turn it around when up front, one transducer on trolling motor and one on transom. The SWITCH is the key to the whole thing!! It switch from one transducer to another as needed. Call Hummingbird, they'll tell you all about it. It is very nice, why have to units?
