A crappie fileted right does not waste meat. You have three cuts the 2 filets, 2 rib cages and a backbone. There is very little meat on the backbone so I pitch mine, as do most. I save rib cages for crappie chowder as it has little meat. How do you fry a 1.5 pound crappie whole? Must be a huge pan and a lot of grease! I agree I would rather eat a rib eye any day. By the way I eat my steak boneless too cooks better. Now I am not wild about seeing less than 11 inch crappie fileted or bream!
