    Default The Bite is on!

I went to the Coosa River in search of the fall Crappie bite yesterday. Got a late start and launched at 11:00 A.M. I worked some of my favorite Honey holes Spider-Rigging bumping bottom over structure in waters 12-20 ft. deep using minnows. Plenty of fish showing on H-bird near the structure but no bites until 3:00 P.M. I pulled up to an area where I knew was a submerged stump directly in front of boat near a cove that emptied into the river and dropped my anchors. After putting 2-12 ft. rods directly out front, I reached and got my cooler and lunch and began eating. Looked up and the tip of one rod was slowly easing down and lifted out of rodholder and boated a 12 inch white crappie. Measured and released. I caught a total of 12 Crappie smaller than the first before the heat got allmost unbearable for this old man. Called it a day. Bass-Stripers in the 1-2 lb. range were consistently chasing shad on top in all the inlets and coves along the river. There is a new hatch of shad that are about 1-2 inches long and fish were feeding on the new hatches. The Crappie had pot bellies as they are beginning to build up for later months. No Pictures. All caught and released. Bite is On. BB Water temp was 79-83.

Thanks for the report. Been seeing a bunch the small shad over here too. Hope all the crappie start putting on a lot of weight. Glad you got out for a while.
