The May 2012 Lanier Crappie Anglers Tournament was held on June, 2, 2012. We had seven teams participate and the fish showed up for this event. The first place team came to the scales with 9.13 lbs bag that was anchored by the tournament big fish at 1.44 lbs. The second place team came to the scales with a 8.19 lbs sack anchored by a 1.32 lbs big fish. After that the race got really tight. Third, fourth, and Fifth places were separated by a total of 0.05 lbs. Third place had a total weight of 7.30 lbs and a 1.12 lbs big fish. Fourth place had a total weight of 7.28 lbs and a 1.23 lbs big fish. Fifth place had a total weight of 7.25 lbs and a 1.24 lbs big fish. Sixth place had a total weight of 3.88 lbs. Seventh place caught fish but elected not to weigh their catch. All teams caught fish and every method imaginable produced. The lake is fishing as good as it has for the last few years. If you are looking for a new place to fish don't overlook this well kept secret. Who knows - Maybe Lanier will one day be known for its crappie fishing just as much as it is known for Stripers and Spots.
