    Default Lanier Today

Well I finally got out crappie fishing this morning after taking some time out to striper fish. Found fish suspended from 9 to 18 ft over a 20+ ft bottom. Not a lot of numbers but had decent quality today. Most all fish caught were relating to nearby cover. Bite was very very light. No loading up on the rod. Had to watch very closely. Whenever the rod did load up the fish on the end was not much bigger than the bait.

Nice catch especially for Lanier, I shoot docks up around clarkes bridge sometime but rarely catch many big ones. Those some slabs right there!
Minnows are for kids<<<update this statement is being reconsidered!

Good catch lcooke, don't see many reports from Lanier and we do have some big slabs here, just have to weed threw the little ones. I know when I go I will bring home some nice ones, it does help that I have been fishing Lanier over 20 years. Most people here seem to give up on the Crappie after the spawn but I have friends that keep up with them year round. Hamonds has a Crappie club that meets there onces a month and has quite a few members and they sink lots of brush which is a must here. I am going to try to get out after the rain moves out.Good Fishing to all...Dennis

    Dennis,
I am a member of the Lanier Crappie Anglers Club. Good group of guys. I have learned a lot in the time I have spent in the club. I have only been fishing hardcore for a little less than a year. I still have a long ways to go. I do know that the fish can be caught any given day but sometimes it is just flat out hard to locate them. Once I get 20 years under my belt that should make it a lot easier to locate them year round. I am going to post more reports on here when I go out but my time is split between species. I just love to fish so whatever is biting better that week that is what I chase. You can call me an opportunistic fisherman. What area of the lake do you fish? I mainly stay up the hooch end.

lcookie, I fish up the Chestatee River most of the time I fish from Thompson Creek to the Warhill area, I live at Toto Creek and sometimes fish there too. I also know some good areas aroung Brownbridge too and fish there when I bass fish. I know Keith Pace I think he is in the club and makes some good baits..Good Luck....Dennis
