My first ever trip to talquin and my introduction to long line trolling . I can tell you this " I am hooked "
Since i knew nothing of the process of trolling i invested in hiring a guide to show and tell and i think i found one of the best , quality guy ( lightwire ) who knows what he is doing and knows how to pass that info to others , all questions were answered and info was offered that i didnt have the questions to ask . Curtis is also very enjoyable to talk with between bites and i had , all in all , a very very enjoyable day . IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO LONG LINE TROLL THEN YOU CAN LEARN FROM ONE OF THE BEST IN OUR AREA
THANKS LIGHTWIRE

Nothing like gettin hands on experience from one of the best !!! You also have to make an investment in the proper equipment to get the job done.![]()
Yep , have to get the proper equipment . I will be purchasing a mk powerdrive with I pilot within the next few days .
My fishfinder is a cheapie one built in 1996 so i need a newer and better one but cant decide on which one . I dont want to spend more than around 400 bucks on one so any advice in selecting one will be appreciated .
Your fishfinder is probably OK to get by with. I primarily use mine for depth purposes, locating fish and trashpiles are secondary to me...Just my opinion. But a GPS is a must!!...Marking the spots where trash piles and fish are will help you to return right back to that exact spot without being, lets just say, 50-100 feet off. There are some reasonably priced GPS/Fishfinders out there...That and a MK Power Drive V2 with Auto Pilot or I-pilot will have you well on your way...Good Luck!!!
I am looking at a 385 ci di combo or a 587 ci di combo now , i really want a screen bigger than 3.5 as i have old eyes lol . both are over 400 bucks but i can live under 500
I do not understand all this ci , di ,si stuff but i do know di is down imaging and si is side imaging
I've got a 80lb - Minn Kota Terrova - I Pilot for sale, like brand new for $1000. 00 - see Ga. Classifieds at top of forum page.![]()
You got in the right boat for the best lessons by a really good guy. Hooker can flat out longline troll. Congrats on a good trip.
Good equipment helps with the learning curve. Powerdrive V2 or Terrova with autopilot or ipilot are the best money you will spend. Fishfinder with GPS and a card slot to use a Navionics chip is the next best money spent. Color screens help, but black and white work just as good. For longline DI/SI (downimage/sideimage) is not as improtant. Good adjustable rod holders are the next best money spent. Lots of options to pick from, but the more adjustable and how they hold the rod is what to look for. After that just start stock piling different color and style jig bodies and Jiffy Jigs and Lightwire Hooks.
It's addictive and lots of ways to spend money, but it can be done on any budget.

A very enjoyable day. We talked about everything from fixing Toyotos to Riding Motorcycles to things that happened when we were growing up. We even talked about the necesseties for trolling for crappie. Trolling Motor with Autopilot, Speed control, and GPS. .......I even included litewirehooks......consistent ways to catch fish. We had a great time and even caught a few fish.

Every day you do not fish will be one day less you have to fish
Yes I also agree that Curtis is a great fisherman. One of the nicest men you will ever meet. I have long lined trolled for close to 30yrs and I know I could learn alaot more from Lightwire. I also met "neondon" for the first time last week and was a really nice fellow.
