Default Grandson in Atlanta wants to crappie fish, help!

My son's family lives in Atlanta. I live in Memphis. TN and fish the COE lakes in North Mississippi. My grandson wants me to teach him how to crappie fish so I believe this means a few more Memphis/Atlanta trips than normal. I know nothing about what lakes are within a 90 minute drive of midtown Atlanta. Once I find a lake and start focusing on learning how to fish it I'll be keeping a boat in storage somewhere between Atlanta and the lake. I hope he will fall in love with the outdoors, just like me. Please, your suggestions on my lake options and any info you have have on nearby covered storage.

This may be a little more than you want but here it is. We have over 500 k acres of good fishing in Ga. Lanier is NE of Atlanta. Allatoona in just N on I 75, lake Weiss is just over the Alabama line on the West side and West Point is just a short drive south of Atlanta. All of them are good . If you kept the boat in Atlanta you would be in the center of some fantastic fishing. Good luck and let us know how you do .

Lanier and West Point are also known for a good striper population. Let him get his line stretched by one of those and he will be fully addicted. Young folks like hard fighting fish.

Lanier's the closest. Straight up GA 400 about 25 miles or so. It's a huge lake and the fishing's fantastic. When I lived in the area we did a lot of crappie fishing on West Point. That's one of my favorite lakes anywhere. Not near as convenient to Sandy Springs as Lanier but it would be worth the drive to go down there once in a while.
