Curley Tail Colors

I'm headed to Academy Sports tomorrow and wanted you longlining experts to suggest your best color combos on Southern Pro curley tail grubs that works in dingy waters for ya. I'm just getting geared for long lining and thought there'd be none better to ask than you guys. I'll be mainly fishing on Russell and Clark Hill lakes. Thx.

All the colors are good! I like the sour grape jig, Acid rain, black/blue chart,
They pretty much have all the tri-colored jigs as kalin's jigs.

when i picks colors i use the old darker for stained/muddy water bright for clear to light stained

I'm not familiar with those lakes. I am heading up to Clarks Hill this weekend for the first time. But the colors I like at Talquin the most would probably be Wildcat, Bubblegum, Popsicle, Acid Rain and Tennessee Shad. But I like to have other colors at all times so I have an arsenal of jigs everytime I go out. For example, one day last year I tried all the usual colors and only caught a few. DexterCrappieCaptain was fishing the same area and he was wearing them out on a color we had never seen before...and I haven't seen it since..You just never know what they are gonna like on any given day. Maybe I will have a better idea after fishing "The Hill" this weekend what colors are gonna be good there.

I'm a firm beliver in Bubblegum/chartruse. That is my all round favorite color along with a contrasting head. I can use Black/white/Chartruse/Blaze Orange heads. The popsicle is great along with grape/chartruse, Tennessee Shad and black/blue chartruse. Normally these colors will catch fish. For me, when I want variations in colors, I use chartruse dye along with little green menthol alcohol.............

Without shadow of a doubt it would be a Blue/Black Chartruese Kalin or Southern Pro in stained water or overcast conditions. I like the Kalin slightly better because the tail is thinner and a tat longer. Either will get it done. Second is Chartruese Shad in the Kalin Triple Threat as well. Gabowman check out the Southern Pro grub called Fire and Ice. It is an electric blue and red sparkle at the head and the tail is sparkled chartruese. I got a gut feeling this one may be an Oconee killer. Also saw one with blue and white in it called a Weiss lake killer. All of these I did see at Academy by Southern Pro. Also saw a new one called All American which is red,white and blue by SP. Good luck!

PS. Third would be, I'm gonna make BIG ED proud. YOU ALWAYS GOT TO HAVE ACID RAIN WITH A PINK HEAD! Always must have at least one of these in the water no matter what.

Do you guys fish the Popsickle, Bubblegum/Chartreuse, and the Acid rain in dingy water? Those look like pretty bright colors so I thought I'd ask.

Not really, except maybe an Ed special for good luck. Black/Dark Blue is the bomb in stained water. I personally have found no match to it. Whether this color is in Kalin Grubs, Southern Pro Grubs, Jiffy Jig Fly, Hal Fly or Uncle Buck Panfish solid body tube which is a clone of a Black/Blue Chartreuse Kalin Grub except in a solid body tube. The flies and tubes tip with a minnow and game on. I also like Black/Firetail in stained water. I am with gabulldog when in stained water keep the colors on the dark side.

PS That Kalin Chartruese Shad is really more like a Black Chartruese Triple Threat. They will bite it too in stained water. I have heard alot about Southern Pro's Red/Black Chartruese Grub in stained water although I personally have never tried it. Kmed1980 has done gave me a taste for some Sour Grape however. I will certainly try them. Run a search on Kelly Matthews post he talks about Southern Pro colors, his post are very informative. Hope this helps.
