My Pointer!
I posted this a year or so ago, & for the life of me I can't find it. So I'm going give a pointer and hope it helps someone.
What I do when fishing & trolling with minnows in deep water. I take a water proof marker and mark all my lines at 25 feet, the mark is about a foot in length. I also know how much line my reels take up with one turn of the handle.
Lets' say the fish are down at 25 feet, simple, I just out line until the black mark touches the water. Lets' say the fish are at 20 feet I know that most of my reels take up 23 inches with each turn, I make two turns and I know I'm at about 21 feet, so just turn the handle a little and can just about put it in their mouth. If the fish are deeper than 25 feet, I just back turn my reels leting out line and counting the turns to get where they are at.
Needless to say, I'm constantly watching my depth finder. I need to add, that the ink from the marker will not stay on some brands of line. The best for me has been the stren original in clear blue. Also, I use a half ounce egg sinker with a split shot.
As I said I posted this a while back, maybe a new person will see it and I hope it helps.
Good Fishing,
