I was to experience one of the worst, yet at the same time best days of my life. The worst was the experience of losing friends in the heat of battle, the best was facing and armed enemy and beating him. The memories from that day are still as fresh 24 years later as they were then....I served with C co. 3/15 Inf 24th ID(M), my company lost 2 KIA and 18 WIA that day. RIP Alaniz and Hutto, I miss you brothers.
On 27th Feb. 1991 2nd Brigade opened the 24th Inf. Division's main attack opened with a enormous artillery barrage by 3/41 FA Bn. and 212th FA Brigade (5 arty batts.) from 0500-0600.
Jalibah airfield was then assaulted by TF 1-64 armor, TF 3-69 armor and TF 3-15 Inf. By 1000 hrs Jalibah was secured. 2,000 enemy soldiers were killed/wounded/captured, 80 AA guns and a tank battalion was destroyed as well as twenty aircraft and helicopters.
