motor repair
[SIZE=4]Hey my Crappie.com freinds. Too any of you it may concern. If you are a good mechanic and know how to replace the forward and pinion gears in a johnson 40 hp 95 model I would like to know. What I'm looking for is someone who knows what there doing to help me out. I would be willing to pay someone 150 dollars or so just too let me do the work in front of you and you talk my why through it so I can have the hands on experience to do it again if it ever happens. to me. I bought the gears and put them in myself with the same shims and it ate the gears up in no time. I don't know the reason it messed up in the first place. I had the motor for about 6 years and was going down the lake one day and it started vibrating. I lifted the motor out of water, didn;t see anything wrong, So I kept going. The farther I went the worse it got. I killed the engine and towed it in. I know the forward gear and pinion gear was bad. I had an older fellow tell me that when you change the gears you have to shim it up different. I can get the gears for about 350. Sportscenter in perry wants over 500 and then 5 t0 6 hours labor. All together first time it only took me about and hour are so to do it. I was raised on the farm and have always fixed everything myself, but i don't want to make another 400 dollar mistake. Like I said, i will be glad to pay somebody to talk me through this, so I can learn for myself and please don't tell me you know how to do it in order to just make some easy money off of me and it cost me again. Any help would be greatly appreiciated. God Bless Brent
