Default Lakemaster - Coming Soon: Florida/Georgia/Alabama (Spring 2012)

I ran acorss infomation that Lake Master maps is working on a Humminbird chip for Georgia / Florida / Alabama. Earlier in the summer I had read that the Johnson Outdoors had purchased the Lake master company and its good to see them expand map coverage down south. I've always heard that these are the best maps on the market.

I had purchased a Navonics chip and returned it the next day. For the money it didn't have the detail that I expected.

On a seperate note: I called Minn Kota this morning to order a part for my I Pilot remote. As I was giving them the information I was getting the credit card ready when the person on the phone said they would send it out free of charge. Certainly suprised me. I'm not use to great customer service and something free. Completely free. Didn't even have to pay shipping and my I Pilot is way out of warranty.

With two Johnson companies offering great customer service (Humminbird and Kinn Mota) it kinda makes me want to rethink Johnson / Evinrude outboard motors.

Just wanted to share some big company good news for a change.

I had heard the same thing on the Lake Master card. That is good news. I do have the Navionics card and am not happy with the accuracy. I have not been on a lake that was even close to accurate. Yes the channels are fairly accurate but the actual depths are NOT. No way to offset for lake conditions (low or high water). That alone will make the Lake Master well worth the costs (if it actually will do what is advertised). Navionics has been a good tool in helping locate flats and other areas for running unfamiliar waters better. I do understand lakes change from floods and such, but they appear to be based on old topography info (really old). Looking forward to better mapping info. As for the customer service at Johnson Outdoors, that is even better news. I have luckily not had to use them for anything yet. I did buy MinnKota and Humminbird products because of the reputation they have for better technical and customer support. Not wanting to start a debate, it is just my thoughts.

Now if we could just get a chip to tell me which stump to fish I would be set!!!!!! RoflDoh

    Rwindis,
I had a problem changing the battery in my I-Pilot remote. When I removed the six screws from the back the plastic posts in the front cover broke. It's a design flaw. The posts are not threaded and the self tapping screws bind in the plastic post, making it impossible to remove them without damaging the cover. I called Minn-Kota and they sent me a new cover and gasket free of charge. Good company to do business with. Hope they change the design of the remote, otherwise they had better manufacture a lot of replacement covers.

SpeckChaser - I had the exact same problem. First time I changed the battery I broke one of the plastic post. The next time another one. Like you said they took care of for me. I've heard the next generation remote is a different design all together. Jason Halfin (sp) on the electronics page has a link to his videos of the new remote and features.
