Thanks for rolling out the welcome mat. I hope to be able to contribute to the sight eventually, but right now I'll be asking lots of questions.

I grew up fishing. My Granny use to take me when I was a kid. I was a bream fishing machine in my teen years, then swapped over to bass fishing. Got bit by the Crappie bug quite a few years ago and have never been worth a flip at finding them. I hope Crappie.com and a good depth finder can help me change that.

The biggest obstacle to me being a crappie fisherman is that I don't take the time to go as much as I hope to be able to. Hopefully now that I own a boat again, my son and I can get after them. I'll make the time to go. I own a Semi truck and trailer repair shop, have cattle and bale hay, I have 30 bee hives and I also try to deer hunt some so spare time is at a premium but we make time for what we love and I love to fish, but mainly I love to fish with my son. He's 15 now, so I don't have a many years before he gets too busy to fish with me.

just a year ago was in the same boat...had no clue what others were talking about when saying tight and longlining. In just I have achieved a lot. I recommend fishing one lake and learning it, watch all fishing reports to learn seasonal patterns based on water temps, and drive slow all the time hitting waymarks in your gps an keep in mind depending on the time of year when crappie should be there. Find yourself submerged structure shallow (easiest), on dropoff for the channels, and deep (hardest). Not all structure will have crappie, but alt will. Then troll, longline, creeks and coves shallower in spring. This will cover you or just about year round. Then expand to docks, bridges, etc. PM me anytime or build you network of locals to share information. Initially, locals don't like to give up spots but will tell you the pattern. Later, a lot of them will tell you spots when you have info to share. I have my spots I share and ones I hold close and only tell a few. Hopefully a local will mentor you like sinkermaker did for me in South Carolina when I moved a year ago.Tim
