need Help fishing deep water

I grew up fishing for Crappie in Mississippi river delta area. We fished around Cypress knees and cypress trees often fishing only 8 inches deep right off the bank catching slabs. This deep water fishing on Lake Wylie, SC has me stumped even when I find cover near the banks I never catch crappie no matter what time of year I fish. HELP ME PLEASE. How to rig and how/where to fish in general.
