    Default New guy from Kansas

Hi all! Technically, I'm from Missouri, but I currently live in Kansas, so I guess I'll call Kansas home for now...

Just wanted to introduce myself and say Hi! I'm in my mid 40's, grew up at Lake of the Ozarks where I did a LOT of crappie, bass, and catfish fishing when I was in my teens/early 20's. My job moved us around a lot, so since about 2002, all I have fished for was catfish (in TN, TX, KS, and MO) -- until this last weekend. We were at a lake in Kansas (El Dorado) and I saw a spot that looked promising for more "actiony" fish, so I threw a white marabou jig on the line and casted (this was my favorite lure back in the day at LOTO, so I figured I'd give it a shot). The water is very low, the lake is around 55 degrees, and has a kinda muddy/rust color to it - but there is an area of the lake with a bunch of old/dead trees sticking up out of the water... I didn't have my boat with me, but after three or four casts from the bank, I caught a 10-11" wiper. Too small to keep, but it was enough to remind me how much I liked fish that put up a little bit of a fight (cats just don't seem to fight that much unless they are huge). Anyway - so, now I'm here and trying to (re) learn all the stuff I used to know about fishing for crappie - it's been soooo long, but I'd love to get back into it again... Any experts wanna shoot some tips my way? Things like preferred line weight, lures/bait that work well for you, bobbers and minnow depth, etc... Anything would surely be helpful to jog an old guy's memory - even just explaining what rig works best for you.

Thanks guys. I have been reading around for several hours - lots of really good info on here! I've got a few new ideas to try out next time I can get to the lake...
