It is great to be here. Have read some really good stuff here and am lookin' forward to doin' some brain pickin' and learn some good crappie tips.
Black River Lake, in Monterey, Louisiana is in my back yard. Once a part of the Black River, they cut a new channel about a mile long for the river, and turned about 16 miles of it into a lake when they put in the levees back in the 1950's. You can watch the shad which are almost always working in the lake and the crappie are always after them big time. Our complex of waterways includes Black River Lake, Workinger Bayou, Horseshoe Lake, Cross Bayou and Cocodrie Bayou. It is possible to run 50 miles or so of lakes and bayou's right from my back yard. All of it good crappie, bass and bream fishing. We are also near Old River at Deer Park, LA and about 20 south of Old River at Vidalia, LA. All they have left to do to return this into the truly great sportsmans fishing paradise it once was, is to put in a set of locks from Black River into Black River Lake, which will allow access to Black River, and refresh and restock our already great fishing complex to what it once was. This would create jobs and help our economy too.
Thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to meeting a lot of new friends, learning a lot, and having some good fellowship and hearing some great fish stories.
Have a great day,
Herschel Reeves

Blackhawk19, Ever know a chopper pilot by the name of Jerry Cobb, or Tom Blanchard? I know chances are slim, but it never hurts to ask. These are a couple of old buddies of mine. Never flew with them, but last time I saw Jerry was 1963, That is when he left Okinawa to go to flight school. Tom Blanchard retired at Ft. Bliss TX about 1980 and went on to fly for PHI in the Gulf of Mexico. Hey, those are a couple of nice crappie you got there.
