I interpreted it as not making rods anymore. My bad.
They shouldn't make rods anymore. They should burn their factory to the ground. I touched one of their Super Fines a few months ago. I got sexually aroused, and felt overtaken by satan himself. Pure evil. That Platinum card ALMOST got slapped down that minute.
The one that fits your rod and you can cast is the line you need. I have a 10wt floating line I use for those big wind resistant bass bugs and it casts smaller flys a country mile. I also have a 5wt that works better for the smaller flys but can cast a larger bass bug but a shorter distance. Smaller lines limit the distance you can cast some flys but don't limit the flys you can use.
The big thing you need to think about is the type, floating, intermediate or sinking. This choice might change for you depending on your location and time of year.
All that came to mind reading this was the thought" That's like being given a '60's AC Cobra and trading it in on a couple of Focus" . Nuff said.
