I was stationed in Fort Hood Tx., when a buddy of mine and I decided to run down to fish Lake Inks. Lake Inks is just below the dam at Lake Buchanan. We were trying to catch Large Mouth in the swift water with Shad-raps when I set the hook on a big-un. It started stripping line from the begining. Fortunatly my buddy pulled ancor and followed the fish. 20 minutes and one heck of a fight later I caught my first glimps of a 40 lb Striper. I did my best with the 14lb test that I was working with, but it was no match for this one. The gut wrenching sound simular to a 22 bullet still rings in my ears today. We returned to the spillway and caught several stripers and hybrids until the floor of the boat was covered, but none was as large as The One That Got Away.
Were just having alittle fun here. ... uh.... I mean..... th--th--the fisheries biologist have taken a DNA sample of the largest one and are analizing it right now for verification even as we speak. The Govenor has envited me and a select few to the Capital for a photo shoot and cerimony next friday. I caught em on a Shakspere rod, Mitchell reel, Trileen line, Minn kota trolling motor, Mercury outbord, Nike shoes and a John Deere hat. All of the sponsor's will be there. Why don't you come too?
Please explain to your fishing buddy that speck hybrids don't count. We know you just got him out of the home but it's time to be honest with him. See you on the lake this weekend and don't forget his medications............
I know I am from the West Coast but this post is great. Have done it so many times to my buddies they will never believe me until they see the fish. Is a lot of laughs to mess with the tourists when you land this monster fish and tell them it is like 20 lbs. over the state record for trout, of course it is a salmon and when/if they catch one they run to the fisheries dept. and try to claim their trophy.
We have a hybrid gill/crappie something here of some kind. It is not even counted on the books but it gets to like 7 pounds. Had a couple people a few years ago come up from Cali and fished for gills and caught a couple. They tore out of there when we told them where the DFW office was, didn't even have to tell them it wasn't a record, they just assumed it was. When they came back 2 hours later we never heard the end of. "You could have told us is was a hybrid fish and not a bluegill." We just looked at them and finished off our stringers and went on our way.
Best one yet was when one of my buddies was asked what a fish was that someone caught, he said it was a huge Golden Crappie and really rare. Of course it was a big carp but them tourists didn't know differently. They got it mounted at a local taxidermy so if you ever hear anyone talking about a golden crappie you can blame us way out west.

Why is it always 'me' that gets put on restriction? ....He started it.
just trying to poke alittle fun....and then....bamm...some one wants to take me seriously. Fine I'll get my breakfast Beer and go to my boat.
