    Default Trolling motor

I'm getting ready to purchase a trolling motor but haven't much experience with them. I've used some in the past fishing w/ my dad and uncle but I've been doing a little research and I think Minn Kota is the better brand. Specifically, I'm looking at the 40/42. Any suggestions?

What type of boat are you going to use it on??
What type of water you going to be fishing on River, lake????
Going to be using it troll with or move over short distances???
mounting, length of shaft, stick steer, foot control or auto control as well as pounds of thrust all come into play when considering purchasing the "correct" motor.

I use a Minn Kota Terrova 48 inch shaft 55 pound thrust with auto pilot. It does everything I want on a 16 Foot alumacraft.....Worth every penny.

I have a 16' fiberglass 35 HP SmokerCraft bass boat w/ edges of boat very close to the water. I figure a 42" would be sufficient. It's a bow mount, foot control. I haven't done any trolling so will probably use it for short distances and may use on river.
