Default off topic / apalachicola florida

Thinking about taking my family to Apalachicola in March and want to know what you might know about it? I have two kids 11 and 6 yrs old and was wanting to take them to the beach. I went to pensicola years ago when I was a kid and enjoyed it. Any information or suggestions would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Lynn

Huck Finn and I went there a few years ago in search of Red Fish and Trout in Appalachacola Bay and St. Joseph Bay. It has beautiful beaches on the Gulf side where you rent the beach houses on St. George Island and also at St. George Island State Park. They call it the forgotten coast for a reason. Don't expect a lot of entertainment like Panama City Beach or Pensacola for the little ones. Check the Real Estate web sites. Hope you enjoy it.

One of my favorite fishing spots Fresh Water/ Saltwater .... The Beach which is on St. George Island is nothing like the "Emarld Coast Beaches" (Mexico Beach to Baldwin County Alabama) It is a nice beach .. don't get me wrong ... if you want a quite place for "Spring Break" its fine ... be sure to carry your fishing tackle .. More info let me know .. I worked that area every 2 weeks for years as a salesman.

    Lynn:
If the boys just want to "veg-out" on the beach, a condo on St George Island will be OK. There is a real lack of other things to do and good restuarants if you like to dine out. Apalachicola is an interesting town to spend the day - but a week??
My wife and I traveled all along the panhandle last year in the winter, and found we enjoyed Destin the most. Lots of things to do - museums, nice harbor with fishing/sightseeing excursions, shopping (Bass Pro shop), good lodging, tons of restuarants, world class beach, etc.
The Holiday Inn (right on the beach) - not the Holiday Inn Express - is famous for it's kid friendly programs, but I'm not sure if they will be up and running in March - they have a web site.
You are right on the dividing line between off-season rates. Some of the places keep their low rates through March, others increase them March 1st. Shop around for the best rates.
Hope you have good weather and the boys have fun. I'm sure they will wherever they are as long as they are with their dad!

    jcass pretty well nailed it.

(We get a lot of people from Mich. all thru the year)

Destin/Panama City rates change (on an average) on March 15th starting of Spring Break and stay Hi until Sept.

I do a little part time work in the area in the tourist business.

Destin more Family Oriented ..... Panama City is more of the Young set "Wild Times" ....

Plenty to do at that time.

    More questions let me know.

I live north of Destin and I'd sure pick it over Panama City or App. More family orienated and better beaches. My preference would be Seagrove Beach. Condo's ect are somewhat cheaper (or at least were when we staid there 3 years ago) and you can get just about what you want as far as houses, duplexes, ect. just my opinion
