Thread: Lake Lochloosa

Did Lochloosa this morning. Left at lunchtime. Only caught 8 this time, but the biggest was exactly 2 pounds weighed with a digital scale. My fishing buddy Don caught it, his first fish this morning, and we thought it was going to be a bang-up day... but that didn't work out.

What color jig were you using. My buddy and I have been limiting every weekend using a blue and chartreuse jig with #5 split shot trolling at .6 to .8 mph.

We caught fish on different colors, but his 2 pounder was on a blue and white tube. We may have been going a bit fast as we like to troll at about 1.5mph

My buddy and I found that this summer we were catching a lot more fish when we slowed the troll down and it was a lot easier to get the depth right also. You should try it. I even went to the BPS and bought a drift sock to keep my speed down. It is worth its weight in gold! We'll be there in the morning. Can't wait have 9 days off starting tomorrow and gonna fish 8 of them!:D

Might try Lochloosa in the morning. Will be either there or Crescent Lake. Won't know until I get to East Palatka in the morning. Gotta turn left for Crescent and right for Lochloosa. Will be in a small cream colored skiff with OUTNUMBERED on the gun'ls. Give me a shout if you're out and about. Be slow trollin' for dinner.

Tom's rig has no problems with keeping it down, regardless of speed, unless it has changed since last year. I have been fishing the rig he discussed since I read about it last year. Sometimes we do great, some times just ok. Seldom skunked. That being said I wonder when the bite slows if they aren't looking for something with more finesse, and further away from the boat. The only rig I am thinking of trying when it slows is putting out more line with a split shot instead of the vertical tight line that is the nature of rigs like Tom's.

My friend came up this week from Orlando. He didn't have any long poles so he tried Tom's method to be able to keep his jigs at a constant depth. I used my method. He ended up with 2 and I had 17. The fishing was slow but they still hit the jigs with only a #5 split shot. I don't know if they sense the ounce and a half lead when moving that slow or what, but they wouldn't really hit it.

We went yesterday and only had 16. I think with the cold front they may be moving and a bit more scattered. It sure isn't like the last four weeks when we have been averaging over 40 per trip. Maybe the weather will stabilize this week and they will pick up again next weekend!
