    Tom,
They're grubs you would throw inshore for sea trout except really small, pan fish size and they were chartreuse.. We trolled those and some small white tubes tipped with minnows.. With the wind being so bad I don't think we had enough weight to get the baits down far enough...

I can't believe that lake isn't fished out with all pressure it gets... I'm gonna be out that way friday doing some work, might bring the boat with me and give it a shot friday afternoon / evening...

Another day (partial day actually) on Lochloosa.

This was the second worse day we have had on the lake in the last three months. We caught 20, kept 10.

Heavy fog at dawn followed by some pretty stiff wind. The fish are still scattered and covering lots of water is the only way to have a decent day the way fishing is at the moment.

We took our usual lunch break at Lochloosa Harbor marina and then went out for a very short time in the afternoon. We saw the storm coming in from the south over Orange Lake and headed for the barn. Got the boat loaded and ourselves in the truck just before the sky opened up. Then we realized we had not put on the last two transom straps. There's always Just One More Thing.

Last, as we backed my buddy's boat into his boat-port in his driveway, we noticed the left rear hub (he has duals) had disintegrated. Inner race and bearing was left, but the outer had actually broken off and was gone. Metal was too hot to touch. I know, I touched it.

More boat work this coming week.

The afternoon bite on Lochloosa is tough. We tried it a LOT. That lake is definitely a morning lake, for us anyway.

I have no idea why. Maybe someone more Crappie savvy than we are knows.

We hit lochloosa again today. Arrived before daylight and were fishing by first light.

Rant Mode On: I wish the Water Cops would stake out Lochloosa for a week or so and fine all the SOB's running without lights in the dark. Rant Mode Off

Anyway, we had a pretty good day. 70 total. 48 throwbacks and 22 keepers. Doing what we always do... pushing jigs tipped with minnows at about 1 mph. Most people wind-drift Lochloosa and that is, in my opinion, a mistake.

Fish are still scattered but beginning to school up some. We had several doubles today as we would hit a school on the move in deeper water.

In my last post I said we never had much luck at Lochloosa in the afternoon/evenings but that was not the case today. We did well after the lunch break getting most of our best keepers in the afternoon. Oh well, just when you think you have something figured out, it changes.

    Full moon probably helped.

    Default What area?

    Hey Tom,

What area of the lake did you concentrate on? Still the Northeast portion?

The fish are scattered. We started off in the southern end and worked across to the entrance to Little Lake Lochloosa. We caught mostly small fish (less than 12 inches are dinks we throw back) but had several keepers.

The larger fish seemed to have moved into the north central part of the lake.

I live in Missouri and years ago before Orange Lake developed the sink hole I used to fish their ever spring. It appears that good fishing has returned. What I need to know can you guys tell me where I could rent a cabin for a month from the middle of Feb. to Mar.?

Ive stayed in the cabins there as well as in a tent and its a very nice spot to camp. The people are very nice and your are right there on the lake, and the bait shop has anything you wuold need for chasing crappie.
