My and some friends are coming down and staying in Astor to fish the River and Mudd lake at the end of Jan! Has any of you been having any luck yet with crappie? I would appreciate any advice!

Anything I would tell you now would change by the time you got here. I don’t fish the area but that’s a good time of year for the area. You might even stumble into a shellcracker or two if your lucky.

I fish Woodruff every winter, Most people longline troll on the lake, but vertical jigging pads and the banks of skinny water yields big blacks. I quit using minnows a couple years back, My 12ft jigging pole didn't like the big Bowfins and channel cats. Plastics and hair jigs tipped with nibbles is always my go to, I've tried pulling Bandits with little success. I will be down on the 23rd for at least a couple weeks, good luck.
