I thought that I would go test out some of my new jig bodies. Les said that he would meet me at the ramp. The plan was put into motion.

We got to the ramp and the wind was a bit more than we expected, but we headed out into the lake to give it a try anyways. We set the rods and this time I checked the set up to make sure nothing slipped like it did last time. We made our first pass and only had one fish in the boat for it. We had been fighting the wind the whole time. Time to change up what we were doing. We headed for the river.

After trying here and then there, with nothing to show for it, we changed things up again. I found a nice cove, out of the wind, that looked good.

I changed over to my 5 1/2 ft ultra lite and sent a small jig towards the shore. About three cranks in I feel the tap, then the rod bends. A nice size red belly comes on board.

We keep working that shore line, making a pass then going back to start over again. On each pass we pick up a few more fish. But the fun part is that they seem to keep getting bigger with each pass.

We finally call it a day and head back to the ramp. The day didn't go like we had planned, but we had a lot of fun and put some fish in the boat. Three nice specks and five good 'gills' made the ride home.
