C-54 canal

Headed out for a backpacking trip this weekend near the canal and am going to pack in some fishing gear. Any pointers or tips? Jig or lure suggestions?

A really long jig pole so you can reach the open water side of the cattails from the bank. Casting might be tricky because of all the overgrowth on the bank. White or natural shad colors seem to work there. It’s the best time of the year to bank fish it. Lilly pad patches are a good place to try too.
