Lake Kissimmee reports/advice

Hey everyone, I've been wanting to make a short trip from Brevard with my 5 year old son to Lake Kissimmee in attempt to find some speck, then of course hopefully show him something cool on Brahma Island.

I am somewhat familiar with the lake but not in regards to fishing, specifically for speck. Any advice or suggestions? Anyone been doing any good out there recently. I'll be primarily long lining as it's easier for my little man to join in on the fun

For trolling, I only have limited experience there & have always picked a few up in the North Cove basin, there's a cut through canal from there to main lake that the vertical jig dippers do well.... hopefully Marvin or Hot pepper will chime in, both do well regularly on Kissimmee.
