Paula and I headed over to the coast this morning. We had heard that the shrimp were starting to show up. They are late this year, and we didn't get any last year so we were ready. When we got to the parking lot, there was still a lot of open parking spaces ( not good ) but we launched anyways and headed out. The first thing that Paula said was " I don't see any other boats " ( not good ). We made our way out to the main channel and made a cast with the net ( at least I remembered how to do that ). Nada ! ( not good ) Paula kept looking at the fish finder and told me to throw again. Bingo !! one shrimp . Skunk off the boat. Now we were ready to get into the action. We kept looking around and making throws when she thought she saw something. We were starting to pick up a few more, more than one in the net at a time too. We did find a few other boats out throwing ( about 8 boats in all) but they did not seem to be doing any better than we were. Then it happened ! I made the throw and as I started to pull the cast net back in, It didn't move ! Snagged on the bottom. It took a little while to free the net, but I have a big tear in it. By this time it was after 11am and the clouds were starting to build in the west. We called it a day. We came home with almost 1 gallon of summer white shrimp of mixed sizes. It will make for a good shrimp boil this week end.

Till next time, full nets and tight lines.
