Between work and weather, it’s been tough finding any time to wet a line. I had a little time this afternoon so I jumped while I could. Dropped in about 3 and fished til just after 6. Might have stayed a little longer but the jacket had been left in the truck. Started out a bit slow as expected. I figured they had been beat on yesterday and this morning so anything would be a plus. I was seeing activity and the app said there was supposed to be a major feed going on so I was optimistic. Birds were everywhere and the squirrels were scolding me nonstop. I spent most of the time with the little Fenwick in my hand. It casts so easy with the little stuff. I have to pay attention or it will go places it shouldn’t. Had a darker jig body on and it didn’t do much, so I wound up changing to an Itty Bitty slab slayer in blue ice after a few swaps that didn’t do much either. First fish was a LMB about 10” that had to go airborne a few times before I sent him back. They’re always good fun. Next was a good male Crappie just over 12” and he got to ride for a while. Over the next hour and a half I boated 6 short crappie and 4 or 5 bluegill, most big enough for dinner but they got a pass. Met a couple of guys in kayaks that were chasing green fish with some success. I call these fish my pet fish but one of these guys got to educate me about my pets. I’ve never seen or caught any but it seems there are a few resident snook here. One was caught and another struck and was identified before saying a quick goodbye. Now that’s something to look forward to on light tackle. Just about 6 I got the female post spawn crappie that thumped my little jig with authority and gave my drag what for. That was about the end of the bite and with my jacket on the seat of the truck, it was time to go. Total was 8 crappie, 5 gills and the one LMB. I was pleased and thought it wasn’t a bad catch for a short trip. Released the two in the live cooler and went looking for the trailer. Cross your fingers that I get a shot to go next weekend. Hope to see you there, til then........ Skeet
