Yesterday, I chose to expand my apprenticeship of my newly found mini-skinny technique thanks to Skeetbum Tim. As Tim easily knows, this high risk, somewhat tedious to learn, isn't for all...but if it is=what a blast! Admittedly, some of us have a low tolerance of change, high risk and adaptation to what has been successful for us. To me, I say that the more you experiment with variance, the more likely the better angler yield. A 2 hour drive to St. John's(Lemon Bluff) was on the early bird agenda which is basically my assigned boundary for travel. Gorgeous sunrise with a field full of wild turkeys(30+-) foraging in a nearby field added positively to the travel variable. Bobby Garland itty bitty Slab Slayers and Tim's hand-tied Grey ghosts in 1/64 oz. jigheads fished with 3 lb. Nanofil/4 lb. mono leaders were armaments of choice. Some 10' dipping and bobber fishing were the other two rods on hand. All single-pole presentations were employed successfully however, because of the apprenticeship mindset 90% of the boatees were done mini-skinny. Caught specks, freckled face bream(stumpknockers?), bluegill(2 coppernosed), catfish(1-5 lbr), 17" Bowfin, couple small shellies to round out a great day of fishing. Easily estimate 50 fish caught/16/1 brought home on a windy, intermittent rainy day. 16 specks ranged 11 - 13" and the 5 lb. whiskered friend and Bowfin served as confirmation that mini-skinny can conquer with proper handling technique. Guess you can say..."there's more than one way to skinny a cat"Tomorrow is another to the limit travel day to accompany a legend, stay tuned. Here's the pics-
