Thread: I Needed This

Having heard that a few were being caught, I had to find out. Still to soon to be out by myself, my first mate Ernie was all too happy to be at the house early to get things ready and head out. Having dropped in and headed that way, we beat the sun to the fishing spot by a few minutes. A beautiful morning with light breezes to help keep the heat at bay. We went back to where I caught fish last year, not knowing what else to do.Most of the rods already rigged, we set up and began. A little garlic sauce was on todays menu, and it didn’t disappoint.

Wasn’t long and the first fish of the day came to visit, all 9” of him. A quick release and none the worst for wear. Wasn’t long and another rod started dancing. This one stayed deep and didn’t want to visit, a little patience and pressure and Ernie netted our first good one for the day. 14” and thick and dark, we were both excited to see what came next. So it went for the time we were there, never on fire but never bored. Plenty enough to keep us interested , the heat finally won and it was 10 o’clock and we called it done for today.

We kept 6 good ones and rest went free, I didn’t want to clean more than that. I learned that I will need a good first mate for a while longer, and that it doesn’t need to be two months before I go again. A very good trip with a very good friend, it just doesn’t get much better. I hope you enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed the day, and I hope you get out soon.
