With this cooler weather ,I got off to a later start. As I was launching, another boat was coming in. I asked how he did and he said only one fish. Late start, bad report. It's not sounding good for me. I asked where he fished, I went the other way.
I got out to the sign line and the wind was a little stronger than I thought it was going to be. I set the rods and was starting to make the adjustment when a rod goes off. Fish on, skunk off ! One keeper in the box, not too big but big enough for the box. I kept the drift going but it was starting to get a little choppy. That's when the rod goes off again. But this time it is pulling. I figured a cat was on the line. So I took my time bringing it in. No wait !! That not a cat, it's a crappie. Got the net. On the third try I get it in the net. That was one big fish. It came in at 14 1/2 inches. That is a personal best for me.
By now there was a good chop on the lake so I figured to move in close to shore to get out of the wind. As I start to pull the rods, one goes off. AND it's fighting like the last one did. Could it be another supper slab ? I get it to the boat and net it, It's an 18 inch cat. But a lot of fun to play with. I get the rods in and make the run for shore.
When I get in close to shore the trees blocked the wind and I had calm water. I put the rods out and before I finished a rod does it's dance and I boat another keeper. By now its starting to get a little late so I point the boat towards the ramp.
Final count for the day:
4 keepers , including my personal best
1 through back
1 cat.
