I got to the lake nice and early, and was glad that I did. It was a beautiful morning ! There was just a light fog out but not enough to matter. It was 59 deg and no wind, the water was like glass. I motored out and set out the rods then set back to watch the sun rise.
Today was to be a day to test out the 3.5 hp to see if it would work as a trolling motor. I test ran it at home yesterday and thought it was all set. But once it was on the boat, it was a no go. So I pulled it off, and put the elect back on.
With no wind I kicked it into low ( #1) and put the boat into motion. And a rod goes off. I grab the rod and look around to find a land mark to refer to ( out in the middle of the lake, like that was going to happen ) (My GPS is still out.) It's a nice one ! I set the boat to do a slow circle to see if he was by himself. Nope !! He had some friends with him . In the next half hour I boat 6 nice keepers. I keep making the circles but seem to moving down the lake a bit, but I'm still catching fish.
I check the live well and throw a couple back. No mediums today. The wind starts up and I head back to the ramp.
I didn't get to test out the 3.5, but I came home with 10 nice keepers and let as many go. I was off the water by 10 am. Now to work on getting that motor to start.![]()

Oops I wasnt done with this.
Seems that those who put in the time on Monroe can get on them. The biggest issue I've found is that the lake is rather big and once the dish move to open water they pile up in little spots. But like anything, you gotta put the time in.
Another outstanding day Jim. I get a shot tomorrow morning for a few hours, hope they cooperate some for the guest I will have along.
