I gave Les a call to see if we could set up a rematch after last weeks trip. He out fished me 5 to 1 on my boat. He was ready to go !
We met at the ramp at 7 AM and headed out. ( I had been practicing all week )
I headed over to sign #4, swung inside of the sign line and shut down the motor and put the rods out. The north wind moved us out into the lake. It was a gentle breeze and it was a delight after the 10-15 mph we have been having.
It wasn't long before one of my rods goes off and I put the first fish in the boat.(It looks like all my research was paying off) But Les was not to be left out of the game. His pole bends over but before I can get a net under the fish, his line breaks. He tried to lift a slab into the boat on 4# test line. I give him some heavier line to retie his pole.
The wind took us out into the center of the lake. When the action slowed down, we pull in the rods and ran back in towards the shore and re-set up for another pass. Each pass we made proved to be productive, putting a few more fish in the live well.
Even with all my practice, Les was keeping up with me. I even had more rods then he did. BUT he was fishing the front of the boat so he was getting to the fish before I was.
Around 11 AM the wind picked up to the point of making it hard to keep control of the boat so we called it a day.
We kept 18 specks and a cat. I did do a little bit better than Les, but not by much. I hope that things work out for next week end , the 5th, and we both can make it to the party.
another good day at the office !
Sounds like you both had a good time.
