    Default Friday fishing

Well, not a good day at all ...........

First off, lazy azz kid (31 yr old) living next door, has been itching to get back on the water all summer, just as bad as me, was supposed to meet me at the boat at 6:30am. I done told him I'm not babysitting him, it's his responsibility to get up and be ready === never showed up (again) ......

Stopped at bait store and noticed he didn't have that many minnows.
Normally his tanks (look like goldfish tanks = see through glass) are full with hundreds of minnows. First time I've seen them with, not that many.
I mentioned it to him and he just said yeah .........

Got to lake, put in, ran to spot where I got the 20 last week, set up, opened the bait bucket = bout half the minnows were belly up = never had that happen before. Put some lake water in with them = didn't help if any at all. I figure something at the bait shop happened that killed most of the bait shop guy's minnows, and he sold me the survivors, which were on their way out anyway.........

Got first speck to surface of water = got off......
Had 5-6 more hook-ups but would get off right when I grabbed
the rod = suspect gar fish.
Anyway, never did get any specks (got three little fellows that I threw back) .....
Sun was hot early, reason I went today = the forcast said it'd be cool today, but that changed as today arrived etc, etc, etc ......

So, maybe you guys can do better than me this weekend .....
After taking English friend fishing salt tomorrow, I'm gonna sit on my duff till I get some real cool weather ........

    Good luck this weekend,
    Danny

And another thing = Had gone bout 10-15 miles coming home and this fellow pulls up beside me and honks his horn, I'm thinkin, Oh, must be someone that knows me
    and wants to say "Hi".....
He hollars "Yer straps are dragging" .... Then I recall. when I exited the ramp and was tying my boat down, the trim tabs were down, I hung my straps on the hooks
then got back into boat to push buttons to raise trim tabs = forgot about straps hanging on back .....
Fortunately, they did not fall off (SS) AND, got no road rash to the nylon webbing = all is good .........

Mike, yep I know about the "strickly jigs" thing, but, being born and raised a minnow feller, I just can't stand it if I'm just using jigs and ain't catching nothing,
then I think "well, if I only had minnows I might of done better, so, I'm stuck with using jigs tipped with minnows = Just to be sure ..................
Ain't never been able to shake it .........................................
(Plus my bait guy gives me free ice) = so I give him business = nice guy etc, etc, etc ............

Musta not spit on your hooks Danny, don't know if it will help, but a lot of activity in the north end of the lagoon last week=Oak Hill islands, I pulled up a little late heat wise, but haven't seen that many folks in that area before....

I'm with you guys, Danny's a hoot, etc, etc, etc....

Heard on the radio this am that the mullet run is cooking good and the associated fish are active in a big way. For me this would translate to massive preparation and no sleep and mountains of ice and a freezer full of bait to catch 3 small fish. I wish you salties the best. The moon has been rising just before the sun so I don't know if that has any impact on what to expect once you get there. I need a boat that won't self destruct in salt water.

Yes sir mullet run is very strong. But if you are not around one of the schools your doing nothing. No rhyme or reason to their wanderings. Turn the wrong direction coming out the inlet and can run 40 miles for nothing to find out they were a mile from the inlet the other direction. But get on a school of mullet and its lights out fishing mayhem.
