NOT a fishing trip, although I did throw a couple of freshwater rods in the car.
Last week we left Lakeland Fl. about 6:30 am, went to YEHAW JUNCTION, and got on the Florida Turnpike. Took this to Homestead, where we had reservations for a couple of nights. Homestead area is kind of the gateway to the Keys.
After arriving in homestead and checking in to our motel, we took a drive to the Everglades National park. We found the entrance very nice, lots of information and stopped at a couple of viewing points on the way to Flamingo on Florida Bay.
We continued on our way to Flamingo about 46 miles from entrance and was disappointed with the way it is run down. The boat ramps are very nice, but the buildings are in need of repair. Many fishing guides bring their clients here, we heard the fishing is great here.
The mosquitos are really bad this year,we were warned at the parks entrance that the further we went, the worse they would get. Even the campers refused to stay the skeeters were so bad.
All in all we had a very nice day, excited about more exploring tomorrow.
Stay tuned![]()
