    Default Coming to Florida

Hey to all the CDC folks in Florida!! The whole family is coming down to Florida for vacation and we are headed down to Sanilbel Island. Just wondering if there were any crappie that a man could catch anywhere in the vicinity of Sanibel. Not much of a surf fisherman at all. Would love to catch a few while i am down there. Hope you don't mind a tarheel crossing the state line.

Thanks for any and all info, Knappy

Sanibel island is a great fishery but not for crappie. If your bringing a boat I can tell you of a place about an hour from you or there is always Okeechobee. If I were going there I would talk to the local bait shop and get what is needed for snook

Sanilbel Island is a great place for a vacation...... plenty of shoreline salt fishing areas, but like fc said you got to go inland for specks.... as far as crossing the state line...ya know that makes you a goober forever.... Enjoy your time here!

You will be among Royalty as far as quality of fishing goes, But that is all saltwater, inshore, nearshore and offshore. I would forget trying to catch Crappie.

If you are on the gulf. Catch some sand fleas in the surf. They dig in quickly as the waves recede. Little pink things about the size of a quarter. they are a wonderful bait that will catch anything. Cast one on a hook with a little weight about 20 to 50 yards from shore. You might catch snook, whiting, redfish, pompano, trout, or permit. They don't charge me to go to N.C. so I won't charge you to come to fl. Have fun. For crappie get a guide at Lake Okeechobee.

Thanks to all for the help. We will not be taking the boat on this trip and we will concentrate on other species than the crappie. Hopefully we will get on some fish and try and post some pics. Thanks again!!

Net ya some live bait and pitch em in. Relax and repeat. Cut bait, shtimp, squid, freezer mullet or crab chunks as well. You should have plenty of entertainment. Keep a pitch rod ready with a 1/2 oz white bucktail or big silver spoon in case a big school of Spanish macks comes through. The bucktail will double duty for snook, cobia, redfish or tarpon that quite possibly stroll by.
