Default Florida Fishing Report Lake Griffin

Went out for about 5 hours with the Wife and cruised a few spots recommended to me by members on here. Picked up some live bait and set out. Caught about 37 between us, but none much bigger than this one

However we had a great time and I just need to figure out how to find some a little bigger lol

It's a start. lol I called a couple friends down there and they said nobody catching much so next week should be better. Find the thicker pads in the Oklawaha river between Griffin and Nelson's Fish Camp. Try the pads at the mouth of Haynes Creek on the left. Push your boat into the pads and look for movement. Lower your bait into the small openings. Keep at it!

Been able to catch quite a few now in the lily pads, but they are all the little guys. Still trying to find the decent sized ones

Try right at dusk, that might help. Thats when I've seen the big'uns on Griffin.

Went out tonight from 6 to 8ish. The Mosquitos forced me to quit. I hooked and picked up some massive shell crackers but they kept getting off the cane pole before I could get them to boat--shook their little heads and off they went. I switched to a casting pole and the bonnet would be sitting nice and pretty and next second lightning speed to the nearest pad. Lost several on the pads. All in all I could only successfully land the dinks. Had fun though. Going to buy slightly larger hooks maybe with a better hook....although I think it was their mouths tearing from the sheer weight. They were HEAVY

Wow have to say that's weird. Glad you're finding them though. I can understand loosing them in the pads, but other than that, I'm shocked you're loosing them like that. I would have guessed you're using too large a hook and not hooking into the lip good (not getting it all the way in mouth). The only other thing I can think of why you'd be loosing the big ones is that they might be bending your hook, but with that, you'd see the bent hook. But good report and better luck next time.

I know I think you are right. My hook us bent out slightly. Replaced hooks with #6 long shank cricket hooks. I think I bent the hooks out slightly pulling off a couple pads and that is what let them off hook

I hope you marked that spot. Sooner or later they will be back there. Or close to there.
