    Default Catching grass shrimp

I bought a live well net and duct taped it to a long wooden dowel and pushed it around some weed beds. In an hour I caught about 6 big crawdads and 9ish grass shrimp. Any pointers? At 8 bucks a cup (which all die in a days trip) it gets expensive. I'll post some pics tommorow of my latest catches

Stop in any of the local bait shops and ask about a "shrimp net"
It should have a handle about 5 to 6 feet in length, and a net with a fine mesh with a sturdy wire hoop to hold the net open.
At 8 bucks a cup, you are shopping in the WRONG store.
There is one bait store on 441 "Lakeside Bait and Tackle" 1000 W. Burleigh Blvd, Tavares. FL 352-742-3337
Second bait and tackle "southerntackleworks" 325 E Burleigh Blvd. Tavares, Fl 32778. www.southerntackleworkscom. Phone: (352) 742-0036.

    Phone call cheaper than gas.

Here is one I did when I lived in Ft Lauderdale in mid 70's. Took a old cheap dip net with the green plastic mesh, then bought a curtain shear ( ask your wife ) sewed it into the shape of the net then laced it around the hoop and used fishing line and upholstery needle to tack bottom to bottom of net. Then just run it up under Hyasinth pods lift and shake. Usually get enough in one or two try's to fish for awhile. If you run out just ease back in and get some more.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but one quick question. What size hook do you use for these grass shrimp?
    Thanks,

When I was doing it I was using a small long shank bream hook. I bream fished the canals west and north of Ft Lauderdale out in the glades. Used to get a lot of small pin minnows in there also and they worked just as good as the shrimp.

I'll check around lady lake area for another place to buy shrimp. Any way to keep them in a tank or something for future trips?
