Its of the Drum Family.................
No idea of the taste - remind me of Carp from up north.............
Good fighters - worthless to eat unless you know how to filet /clean them.
Crappie are the fish for me.............altough, i really used to look forward to chasing
the Shellcrackers (red ears) around Full moon time - Febr - April..............
Those guys can really wear you out - oz for oz they are one of the scrappiest fighters
and filet out very good - good to eat
Crappie then bluegill and shellies for me... too much time and more expense for the other stuff. It's good to have these options close by though.
If you want pull and worms Black Drum is the ticket. In summer you can find large schools in the bays of coastal Florida.
Mangrove Snappers!! Taste as good as crappie but firmer flesh. Also Snook but hard to catch those in the slot. Crappie is fave fresh water. Shrimp were plentiful this season and those top them all!! Catch them right off our back yard!!

I love those shrimp too! Can't beat those large fresh caught ones.
Glad to have you back onboard Ginny, miss your posts and travels
