    Default Bluegill/Shellcracker help on Monroe/Jessup

Howdy all. Thinking about trying some bream fishing on Monroe or Jessup. Never have tried to catch them on purpose. Would love to catch them on ultra light spinning or my 2-weight fly rod. Unfortunately I am having two more disks fused in my back on June 9 so my time is running short. I would love any public or PM advice on the subject matter of flies or good areas to check out.

Can't help with the location to catch them. I am always thinking about the fly fishing for bluegills.

Good luck with the surgery. My only advise is to get off the pain meds as soon as you can tolerate it and go for your therapy.
I got fused 12 years ago, s1 to l3 with hardware, two rods, 8 screws and two straps. Never felt better. May be a little stiff, but got used to it.

Been catching a few nice gills in the river north of Monroe...never fished Jessup for bream but I would imagine soldiers creek area might be good....Never used a fly before always use a rubber bug under a bobber.........maybe hunting labs will have some information for ya....good luck!

Speedy recovery with the back issue!

Beaded prince nymph or pheasant nymph are good sinking flies. I like to tip with a Berkeley power maggot or live spike. A miss prissy or bream Grimm are great poppers as it gets warmer. The glow versions are awesome on a summer night. 1/32th ounce beetle spin are fun at times. My favorite is tossing crickets under a 1.5 slim float with a 3/0 shot and #6 light wire hook. I like an ultralight or light action spinning combo, but bream busters is what most use. The shell crackers love a red worm near or on the bottom.

I can only help ya on Monroe. When ya come under the I-4 bridge heading towards lake, look at 1:00 there is an old abandoned sailboat. Go straight to as soon as you clear the bridge. When you are about 200 yards away drop trolling motor and start casting. There is a large bed every year in that area. Also the last point on north shore coming from river before the turn to OPP there is a bed on that point every year. Watch and you will see the sanford locals anchored up on em when they are there. Good luck to ya on boths endeavors.

Hey Mike good to see ya kinda. I was at Henderson fish camp today on lake ISTAPIGO. Blue gill bigger than I've ever seen in my life in the pads. On grass shrimp. In addition Volusia bass boats for tournament. 8 lb bass yesterday and 12 lb today.

When I first started fly fishing I took a casting course from a local Orvis store. The instructor, who had a sense of humor, was identifying the different flies to use and mentioned that sometimes he resorted to a live worm. He said if someone asked what he caught the fish on he said a "Garden Nymph".
